Dangerous Prayers: Part 2- “Send Me”
Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Three responses to God’s call:
1.“Here I am. I’m not going.”
Jonah 1:1-3, The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.” 3 But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord.
2.”Here I am. Send someone else.
Exodus 3:10, “So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.
Exodus 4:13, “But Moses said, ‘O Lord, please send someone else to do it.’”
Isaiah 6:8
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’”
Isaiah 6:8
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
3. Here I am. Send me!.”
What do you need to fully surrender to God?
1. An experience with God.
Verse 1: “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.”
vs. 2-4 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another” ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.”
James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
2. Grasp the weight of your sin.
In verse 5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
Verse 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
3. Understand God’s grace.
